A Shot in the Dark

2008 Daphne du Maurier Award Finalist
2008 Golden Acorn Finalist

Alexis Thompson, elite Army sniper, spent hours lying in wait on missions. Utilizing her time to the fullest, she concocted ways to employ her unique skills to avenge the gang-rape of her younger sister. She never intends to use her ideas, but imagining putting a round through each man’s head was her own form of psychotherapy.

Now retired, she barely has her gear unpacked when the FBI contacts her to help them solve a series of sniper killings around her hometown of Indianapolis. After examining the four cases, Alexis is not sure which shocks her more, the domineering and undiplomatic FBI agent she’s assisting, or the fact that two of the four victims were men acquitted of her sister’s rape. Even more disturbing, the men were killed in the exact manner she’d envisioned.

FBI agent Edan Remkey’s gut tells him that the sniper shootings aren’t as random as they seem. Before he can prove it, his boss brings in an expert to get inside the sniper’s head. The sexy, aloof Alexis sparks Edan’s interest, but her odd reactions to the case make his instincts scream she’s somehow involved. Even with her uncanny ability to predict the shooter’s next move, they remain a step behind their adversary as he claims more victims. Alexis tries to track down the killer on her own until the shooter puts her and Edan in his cross hairs. Now they have to work together to save each other and apprehend the psychotic vigilante.
